SUMMARY:Diplomatic Mission to Russia
DESCRIPTION:Over the last two years relations between the US and Russia have deteriorated badly.  Fort Worth Sister Cities feels the time is ripe for citizen diplomats from both countries to step in and help reduce this non-tenable situation. Many Americans and Russians genuinely yearn for good relations between our two nations. There are no problems between the peoples of Russia and the USA. We only need to overcome our distrust and fears\, and build cultural understanding and respect of each other to guarantee friendly relations. Fort Worth Sister Cities International is traveling to Russia in 2018 for that very reason.\n\nSee the tentative itinerary\nDownload the registration form.

SUMMARY:Hiroko Tanaka Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Hiroko Tanaka is from Yokohama-city\, Kanagawa\, Japan and will be featuring her latest works at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Tanaka is an executive committee member of the Ohgenkai Art League and a member of the Japanese Artist Association.\nWhen she was a teenager\, she was chosen to be a model for the Girl Scouts Friendship statue in Yokohama along with Nagaoka Chair and Fort Worthian Libby Watson. Half a century later\, she has had a reunion with Libby and has visited Fort Worth\, Texas twice. She created this new series of paintings titled “Five V” as an expression of how she was moved by the bond of friendship. Five main women are represented throughout the paintings\, each with her own color and key word. Their characters and colors\, their passage through the past\, the present\, and the future creates a tapestry of the humor\, closeness\, and elegance that is their friendship with one another.

SUMMARY:Concert by Organist Martin Bambauer
DESCRIPTION:A special performance by Martin Bambauer\, concert organist and Director of Music at the Basilica of Constantine in Trier\, Germany\, Fort Worth’s sister city since 1987\, is planned for March 3 and is free and open to the public.\n\nThe concert is the result of a collaboration between Fort Worth Sister Cities International\, The Fort Worth Chapter of American Guild of Organists and Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women.\n\n \n\nHelp us raise funds for Mr. Bambauer’s honorarium by donating in memory of cherished Trier Committee member\, Jean Frick. Jean began playing the violin at the age of 6 and this was a lifelong love of hers. Jean played with the Fort Worth Opera Orchestra\, which later became the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. She was the music director for the Fort Worth ISD\, traveling and teaching at multiple schools. She took great pride in later teaching orchestra at Southwest High School\, winning many state awards and directing many musicals. In her retirement\, Jean became active in the Symphony League of Fort Worth\, serving as president and chair of the annual Oktoberfest. SUMMARY:The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)
DESCRIPTION:The Nîmes Committee and the TCU Office of International Services invite you to a free showing of William Dieterle’s 1939 film\, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. See how 2019 Paris differs immensely from 1939 Paris and commemorate the historic monument 80 years after Dieterle’s iconic film shocked the world.\n\nParking is located on West Bowie across the street from the building in the open lot.\n\nA very special thank you to John Singleton and the Kinomonda Global Cinema Project for organizing!\nMORE ABOUT THE FILM\n80 years after Dieterle’s iconic film\, cell phones\, televisions and digital media ignited in an incendiary silence as one of the world’s most famous structures smoldered\, burned\, collapsed and smoldered again. Parisians\, tourists\, art students and virtually everyone familiar with the iconographic church watched in sadness and awe as something seemingly impossible happened—a monument to human history was reduced to ashes. Like the ancient libraries of Alexandria\, something immeasurable and unattainable again was lost.\n\nThe Hunchback of Notre Dame takes us backward in time\, to a moment in history when not only the Pope but anything affiliated with the church was infallible. Victor Hugo’s story is amazing in his ability to write in such a way that a story relevant at the turn of the 19th century would also be relevant 100 years earlier\, or unfortunately\, 100 years later.\n\nThe new Notre Dame will undoubtedly be shiny and beautiful. May the stories of the new Notre Dame resonate with beauty and hope.
