Reggio Emilia is Awarded the 2026 Europe Prize
Our sister city, Reggio Emilia, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Europe Prize, the highest distinction awarded by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to recognize outstanding efforts in advancing European cooperation and promoting shared European values.
Located in northern Italy, Reggio Emilia is home to approximately 171,000 residents and maintains an extensive international network, with partnerships involving 12 sister cities and seven additional international agreements.
Reggio Emilia continues to demonstrate its commitment to international cooperation, youth engagement and humanitarian action. In 2025, the city participated in more than 47 European projects, engaging over 2,000 students in international programs and exchanges. Its Youth4Europe initiative also received the 2025 Eurodesk Award for promoting youth participation in civic life. Additionally, the city has welcomed more than 4,000 Ukrainian refugees, supported educational exchanges with Melitopol and maintained active involvement in international networks promoting intercultural dialogue, human rights and sustainable development.
Established by PACE in 1955, the Europe Prize recognizes European cities that demonstrate exceptional dedication to international cooperation, democratic values and strengthening ties across borders. Along with the award itself, the winning city receives funding to support a study visit to European institutions for its young residents.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, November 13th in Reggio Emilia.
